Visiting Surrey

Our lovely pub with rooms is plonked smack-bang in the middle of the family-friendly village of Claygate.

We’re blessed with leafy green-ness and hustle-and-bustle in equal measure, so you’ll find there’s something to tickle every fancy. If you’re looking for ways to while away your downtime hours, then read on for our top fave ways to spend time in Surrey.

Claygate Village

In bustling Claygate, there are independent shops and cafes aplenty. There are three areas to explore: The Parade, Hare Lane and The Old Village.

Take a slow wander – be a local for the day. Bob into one of the lovely cafes for a cuppa and a piece of cake (we quite like Capital Coffee) and enjoy people watching in peace.

Surrey Hills

The Surrey Hills is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is a rambler’s dream.

Choc-a-bloc with walking and biking trails (for all abilities) and super-cool views over Surrey, it’s a rather special place to stay. Visit the Devil’s Punch Bowl, wander around Leith Hill Tower and see the wildlife at Frensham Ponds.

Box Hill

This is a lovely place for a trundle. Either go the whole-nine-yards with your walk and follow one of the longer trails, or drive up to the top of Box Hill and simply soak up the scenery.

There are stepping stones (if you’re brave enough) and some family friendly walks that have little playgrounds on the way. Take a picnic and spend the whole day in the trees. Why not?

Happy days, indeed,

Hampton Court Palace

A 30 minute bus journey (or a 15 minute drive) lies this incredible red brick palace.

Fun for all the family, Hampton Court Palace has incredible gardens (including a brain-boggling maze) which are spot-on for exploring on a sunny day.

Ramble the gardens, or head inside to see the kitchens, boudoirs and chambers that were once occupied by King Henry VIII.

Chessington World of Adventures

If you’re entertaining the kids (or you’re a big kid yourself) then this is a spot-on stopover for you.

With Chessington World of Adventures just under a 10 minute drive away from the pub, you can look forward to rollercoaster-ing to your hearts content – then back to rest your weary heads.

Sandown Ski Slope

Here’s an activity for the thrill seekers amongst you.

Four dry ski slopes await, so you can get your ski on with the family before heading back to the pub for a hearty dinner and some apres ski tipples.
